The Mismaloya region, located on the southern peninsula of Puerto Vallarta, is renowned for its cinematic history. It was the setting for the film “The Night of the Iguana,” directed by John Huston, which put Puerto Vallarta on the tourist map. This beautiful small bay is surrounded by mountains blanketed with tropical rainforest.

On the beach, there are numerous rustic palapa restaurants and a large hotel. Inland, there is a small village with country-style restaurants and a small hotel that’s fun to explore, especially on horseback². The nearby rock outcroppings define the Los Arcos National Marine Park, an excellent place for snorkeling, scuba diving, or bird watching. Even the whales in Banderas Bay, from November through March, seem to favor this area.

Mismaloya’s real estate options primarily consist of condominiums for sale overlooking the bay of Mismaloya, as well as hillside condos and homes for sale situated above the highway in the development of Lomas de Mismaloya.

Famous for its golden sands, tropical climate, and intense emerald blue waters, Mismaloya Beach is a destination that will captivate you. Located in the spectacular Banderas Bay and just 20 km from Puerto Vallarta, it is one of the favorite getaways for locals and people who choose this city as a summer destination. Both the beach and the village offer a much quieter environment than bustling Puerto Vallarta.

Many tourists choose the village of Mismaloya and the homonymous beach as a summer destination for multiple reasons. Although the beach is not too wide, the natural environment that surrounds it is unbeatable. If you add the calm emerald sea and the unique postcard that the Los Arcos National Marine Park gives you, Mismaloya becomes a destination to which you will hardly be able to resist.

In short, Mismaloya is sea, mountain, beach, tranquility, sun, and entertainment. So, if you plan to spend the summer in Puerto Vallarta or on the coasts of Jalisco, be sure to reserve a few days to rest in Mismaloya. From there, you can visit other beaches in the area that are only accessible by sea.
